MAKE ME BELIEVE

A lot of designers tried to do ‘interesting’ photoshoots to showcase their Prefall 11 collections this year…

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER:

Nailed it. Very simple, but so clever and effective:         LOVE IN AN ELEVATOR

LANVIN:

A rather bizarre shoot involving a few wind machines, lots of taxidermy animals and some nausea-inducing angles – which was all too much: FEEDING TIME AT THE ZOO

VIONNET:

Gave it a shot, by having the model run around a carpark with coloured walls and ‘exit’ signs in the backdrop, but this was completely irrelevant in context with the clothes – their woman would never be wandering around in a multi-level carpark – certainly not dressed like that anyway:    THEY PAVED PARADISE…

The carpark was cool as a background, and the collection was wonderful, but the combination of the two was faintly ridiculous and left me feeling very confused as to who this person was, where she was going and what she was doing. I mean – dont you think a woman like this would have heard of valet parking? Come on.

NO. 21:

This was so understated, but just perfect. The mirrors allow you to see ecah look from multiple angles; the setting is believable; the colours of the background compliment those of the collection – everything works together as a whole to enhance, rather than compete. Gold stars all roundSHE’S A LADY
